Debbra A. Keegan, M.D., came to IRMS from IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates in 2010. While in Florida she was an assistant professor at FIU College of Medicine in the Department of Ob/Gyn. A native New Yorker, Dr. Keegan completed her subspecialty training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the NYU Fertility Center of the New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. Keegan is board certified in reproductive endocrinology and general obstetrics and gynecology. She received her medical degree from NYU and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Bellevue Hospital / NYU Medical Centers. Dr. Keegan completed her undergraduate work at Cornell University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Human Development. She then earned a Master of Science in Biology from the NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science where she studied the effects of maternal nutrition on pregnancy.
“From the moment I decided to become a physician, it was clear that I would specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology. My inspiration to pursue a career in Women’s Health came from being raised in a very matriarchal family. I became fascinated by the complexity of early human development as an undergraduate at Cornell. These combined interests led me to pursue a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. As a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, I am able to play a small role in the beautiful process of conception and early pregnancy, while making a difference in my patients’ lives. I feel lucky to have such an amazing career.”
Dr. Keegan is the Director of Ovum Donation at IRMS. In 2011, she was selected to train as a CREST scholar. This required the completion of a 2-year program conducted by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Duke University and the NICHD to obtain advanced certification in clinical research. She hopes to utilize this specialty certification in her role as Director of Ovum Donation.
Dr. Keegan also has a particular interest in genetic screening and diagnosis, a very fast-moving area of the field of assisted reproduction. As such she is presently taking an ACOG (American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology) sanctioned course in Human Genomics.
In addition to maintaining a busy clinical practice, Dr. Keegan actively teaches and mentors medical students and residents. She also participates in a community outreach program designed to bring an informal approach to sex education for middle school students.
Dr. Keegan’s volunteer efforts include serving on the Board of Directors as Director of Development for Life is Great Global Foundation (ligglobal.org). In this role, she participates in international medical missionary work by performing gynecologic surgery in medically underserved areas. As a board member, she oversees networking and fundraising projects. Dr. Keegan is also on the board of Embrace Kids Foundation. Embrace Kids exists to lighten the burden, maintain normalcy and improve the quality of life for families whose children are facing cancer, sickle cell and other serious health challenges. Embrace Kids addresses the spiritual, emotional and financial needs of patient families in the New Jersey/New York City metropolitan area.
Dr. Keegan has special interest in LGBT family building as well as egg freezing for transgender youth, the unique issues related to obesity and reproduction, as well as health and wellness as it relates to fertility.
